City Meet will take place Thursday, July 25 through Saturday, July 27. Preliminaries for swimmers 10-Under will be held on Thursday, July 25. Warm-ups will begin at 1:00 pm, with a meet start time of 3:00 pm. Preliminaries for swimmers 11-Up will be held on Friday, July 26. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a meet start time of 9:00 am. Finals will be held on Saturday, July 27. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a start time of 9:00 am. Additional details can be found in the Meet Invitation, which is listed below.
Teams need to register for City Meet by either clicking on the Registration tab on the GKAISA website or by attending the Meet Entry Meeting on Monday, July 15 at 6:00 pm at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. NOTE: This will be TEAM entry-- not individual swimmer meet entries.
DRINKS FOR HOSPITALITY
As we have done for the past two years, we are asking each team participating in City Meet to either bring 3 boxes of 12-count cans of soft drinks so that we have drinks for coaches and meet officials. Soft drinks will be collected on Wednesday, July 24 or during the morning of July 25. Drop-off will take place at the stairs in front of the aquatic center. Representatives from KRC will be there to collect them.
If your team does not want to bring drinks, you can pay $25.00 so that our Hospitality workers can purchase drinks. Please pay in the Merchandise section of online registration or bring a check payable to GKAISA to the Meet Entry Meeting.
TEAM LOGOS AND SENIOR SWIMMER RECOGNITION
We will be able to post team logos on the video boards during our Senior Swimmer recognition. If your team has seniors who will be recognized, please send a list of your seniors, along with your logo in .jpg format, to Marshall Goldman at mgoldma4@utk.edu. Logos and swimmer names must be received by July 15 in order to be posted.
ATHLETE PROTECTION AND OTHER POLICIES IN PLACE AT AJIAC
The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Program (MAAPP) went into effect June 23. UT’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center will need to enforce this policy. At all times during City Meet, the UT team locker rooms will be used for athletes, coaches, workers and officials ages 18-up. The visiting locker rooms will be used for athletes under 18 years of age. There will be signs posted during the meet to direct people, but we thought it would be helpful to advise you of this change prior to the event.
Also, the diving well at Allan Jones Aquatic Center will be closed on Thursday and Saturday of City Meet. We have been requested to advise teams that absolutely no one will be allowed in the diving well on these dates. With the Junior National Diving Championships beginning on Sunday, the staff will immediately begin preparing for them as soon as our last event is concluded. Please make your staffs, swimmers and parents aware and ask them to be respectful of the staff and facility as they prepare for this exciting event.
ART SUPPLY COLLECTION
REMEMBERING CLARK REAGAN (August 2, 2010- June 10, 2019)
GKAISA would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Clark Reagan family and to his Green Meadow Swim Team family.
Clark is remembered as a bright and shining light who always saw the good in people. He was a great teammate. He always had a positive attitude at practice and meets and always had a smile on his face- even when his relay finished last in Consolations at City Meet! He was the kind of swimmer that you want in your lane - he had a great time with his friends and was soft-spoken and sweet to everyone. At each meet, the GMST coaches put their swimmers’ names on their backs. His mom, Miranda, would always decorate his back with a new design each week using the most creative things-- Clark the Shark, Super Clark, an octopus, the Incredibles, etc. Clark was an artist. He usually had most of the 8 and Unders lining up for some Sharpie art, and all of the coaches and parents knew him by his artwork.
Clark had a passion for art and all things creative- writing stories, drawing, painting, etc. To celebrate his love of art, and his passion for sharing that love with everyone around him, the Green Meadow Swim Team will be collecting new art supplies (markers, crayons, yarn, scissors, glue sticks, etc.) to be shared with kids in communities like the Venezuelan school, Escuela Padre Juan Jose Zugarramurdi Il de El Vinedo, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Alcoa, TN.
We will continue to honor the memory of Green Meadow swimmer Clark Reagan by collecting art supplies during City Meet. Collection bins will be available in the concourse.
OTHER TEAM CHARITABLE ACTS
We know that many teams are doing public service and fundraisers for various causes this year. If your team has done something (or is planning to do something), we would like to recognize you. Please send an email to GKAISA President Angelia Nystrom at anystrom@tennessee.edu with a brief description of your team’s activity.
