GKAISA News and Notes: June 3

Team Reps and Coaches,

Please let your parents know that GKAISA needs more certified officials. There are three remaining opportunities to get certified:

Tuesday, June 4 at 6:00 at Holston Hills

Monday, June 10 at 7:15 at Springbrook Park

Tuesday, June 11 at 6:00 at Arnstein Jewish Community Center

Check out the GKAISA website for additional details. Again, please encourage your parents to get certified. Let them know that NO SWIMMING EXPERIENCE NEEDED…. Just a willingness to learn and serve.

Thank you, Coaches, for turning your coaching training certifications in in a timely manner. And thank you, Team Reps, who have sent in your Certificates of Insurance.

Certificates of Insurance are due by June 15. If you have not sent yours in, please forward to GKAISA VP Breckenridge Morgan at breckenridge@GSMAssoc.org.

Certificates of Insurance Due- June 15, 2019

Smoky Mountain Invitational (SMI)- July 13-14, 2019 @ Springbrook Park in Alcoa

GKAISA City Meet Championships- July 25-27, 2019 @ Allan Jones Aquatic Center (UT)

Fall General Membership Meeting – October 22, 2019, 7:00 P.M. @ AJCC

We will be sending out information regarding City Meet in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we need you to be aware that the minor athlete abuse prevention program goes into effect June 23. UT’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center will need to enforce this policy. At all times during City Meet, the UT team locker rooms will be used for athletes, coaches, workers and officials ages 18-up. The visiting locker rooms will be used for athletes under 18 years of age. There will be signs posted during the meet to direct people, but we thought it would be helpful to advise you of this change prior to the event.

Also, the diving well at Allan Jones Aquatic Center will be closed on Thursday and Saturday of City Meet. We have been requested to advise teams that absolutely no one will be allowed in the diving well on these dates. With the Junior National Diving Championships beginning on Sunday, the staff will immediately begin preparing for them as soon as our last event is concluded. Please make your staffs, swimmers and parents aware and ask them to be respectful of the staff and facility as they prepare for this exciting event.

In the past, we have used the GKAISA website to post only GKAISA-related jobs. In recent weeks, we have had a number of teams and friends of GKAISA contact us about posting aquatics jobs in the area. Our Board has discussed this and believe that these aquatics jobs help to promote swimming in the Knoxville area. Accordingly, if you have an aquatics job and would like to have it posted in the "Jobs" section of our website, please send the information to GKAISA President Angelia Nystrom at anystrom@tennessee.edu.

We hope that your seasons are off to a great start. If you have questions or need assistance this year, please do not hesitate to call a member of the GKAISA Board.

Happy Swimming!

Angelia Nystrom

GKAISA President
