GKAISA News and Notes: City Meet Information Updated on Website

Team Reps and Head Coaches,

All City Meet information has been posted on our GKAISA website under the City Meet tab. Please take a few minutes to review the information. (Also, if you see anything that you think MAY be incorrect, please let me know. We have made some pretty significant changes to City Meet and Meet Entry this year, so we want to be sure that everything is covered--- and correctly!)

As you are aware, City Meet will take place Thursday, July 25 through Saturday, July 27. Preliminaries for swimmers 10-Under will be held on Thursday, July 25. Warm-ups will begin at 1:00 pm, with a meet start time of 3:00 pm. Preliminaries for swimmers 11-Up will be held on Friday, July 26. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a meet start time of 9:00 am. Finals will be held on Saturday, July 27. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a start time of 9:00 am. Additional details can be found in the Meet Invitation, which is available on the website.

Teams need to register for City Meet by clicking on the Registration tab on the GKAISA website. NOTE: This will be TEAM entry-- not individual entries. When you register your team, you can indicate your number of swimmers, order your team tent, order t-shirts, pay for ads and posters, pay for drinks for hospitality, and pay any outstanding fees that your team may owe.

You have the option to pay by credit card when you register (NOTE: WePay will charge you a 3% service charge. This money goes to WePay and NOT GKAISA). If you do not wish to pay online, you can pay by check, which must be received at the Meet Entry meeting on Monday, July 15 at 6:00 pm.

As we have done for the past two years, we are asking each team participating in City Meet to either bring 3 boxes of 12-count cans of soft drinks so that we have drinks for coaches and meet officials. Soft drinks will be collected on Wednesday, July 24 or during the morning of July 25. Drop-off will take place at the stairs in front of the aquatic center. Representatives from KRC will be there to collect them.

If your team does not want to bring drinks, you can pay $25.00 so that our Hospitality workers can purchase drinks. Please pay in the Merchandise section of online registration or bring a check payable to GKAISA to the Meet Entry Meeting.

This year, all tents must be reserved through GKAISA. We have contracted with Rothschild’s, who will place tents on Wednesday, July 24 and will remove them as soon as Finals conclude on Saturday, July 27. You must reserve them online with City Meet registration. Payment can be made either online in the Merchandise section of online registration or by check payable to GKASIA at the Meet Entry Meeting.

Prices are as follows:

20x20 $200

20x30 $300

20x40 $400

30x30 $450

If you are requesting a different size than your team has had in the past or if you are requesting a different location, please send a message to Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu.

Ad sales help us defray the cost of City Meet for our teams. We are asking your assistance by promoting City Meet ad sales with your teams.

Promotional Banners:

Hang your team or a business banner from the railing on the concession side of the Allan Jones Aquatic Center (under the scoreboard). The cost to hang a banner will be approximately $250 for all three days, depending upon your banner size. Anyone who pays to hang a banner will also receive a 1/8 page ad in the City Meet Heat Sheet.

Spaces to hang posters in the concourse of the Allan Jones Aquatic Center will be available for purchase. Costs are as follows:

12” x 18” $10.00

18” x 24” $15.00

24” x 36” $20.00

Posters should be on poster board or construction paper and submitted to Brad Salsbury for approval by Wednesday, July 24.

Heat Sheet Ads:

Heat Sheet Ads, with Video Board Option:

Heat Sheet Ads are also available for purchase. This year, advertisers purchasing Heat Sheet ads may also purchase the option to have their logo on the video board at various times throughout the meet. Prices are as follows:

1/3 page $110.00 (with video option for an additional $120)

1/2 page $140.00 (with video option for an additional $100)

Full page $250.00 (with video option for an additional $50)

All Ads are due by July 15. Logos should be submitted to Kelley Perkins at khperkins@yahoo.comin .jpg format for display on the video board, as well.

Payments for all of the above can be made either online with Meet registration or by check at the Meet Entry Meeting. Payments may also be made by check payable to GKAISA and mailed to GKAISA President Angelia Nystrom at 613 Scotswood Circle, Knoxville, TN 37919.

Please promote the sale of City Meet shirts to your parents and swimmers. Proceeds from t-shirt sales go toward helping defray the costs of City Meet and to assist in funding GKAISA scholarships for senior swimmers. Cost will be $15.

Shirts must be ordered through our online Registration link (one order per team). Payment can be made either by credit card through the website or by check at the Meet Entry meeting.

All orders must be submitted online prior to the City Meet Entry Meeting on July 15.

We will be able to post team logos on the video boards during our Senior Swimmer recognition. If your team has seniors who will be recognized, please send a list of your seniors, along with your logo in .jpg format, to Marshall Goldman at mgoldma4@utk.edu. Logos and swimmer names must be received by July 15 in order to be posted.

If anyone on your team is interested in auditioning to perform the National Anthem, please have him or her contact Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu or at 865.936.5454. Auditions may be carried out in person, over the phone or by video audition (preferable) sent to the email listed. For more information, see the City Meet tab on the GKAISA website.

Also, we will again be asking each top qualifier from the 15-18 age group to choose “walk out” music for Finals on Saturday. This music will be played over the indoor speaker system after the Consolation heat has been swum and before the finalists are introduced. Please note: This music must be appropriate for all age groups. Any style of music is allowed, but absolutely no lyrics containing sexual content, profanity, or references to violence will be allowed. All music will be screened for content.

If you have a swimmer or relay that is top-qualifier, please email the title of the song and name of the artist to Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, July 26. Please put “GKAISA Heat Winner Music” in the subject and include your name, your team, your event, and your event number in the email. Also include any cueing instructions (i.e., “start at 1:32”). Approximately 30-45 seconds will be played.

2019 GKAISA Scholarship Information is available on the GKAISA website. Only one girl and one boy from a team may be nominated. The nomination must be signed by the head coach. The applications are due via email submission by 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019 to GKAISA president Angelia Nystrom at anystrom@tennessee.edu. Please include a photo (head shot) of the nominee. Photos of all winners will be displayed on the scoreboard during the award presentation.

The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Program (MAAPP) went into effect June 23. UT’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center will need to enforce this policy. At all times during City Meet, the UT team locker rooms will be used for athletes, coaches, workers and officials ages 18-up. The visiting locker rooms will be used for athletes under 18 years of age. There will be signs posted during the meet to direct people, but we thought it would be helpful to advise you of this change prior to the event.

Also, the diving well at Allan Jones Aquatic Center will be closed on Thursday and Saturday of City Meet. We have been requested to advise teams that absolutely no one will be allowed in the diving well on these dates. With the Junior National Diving Championships beginning on Sunday, the staff will immediately begin preparing for them as soon as our last event is concluded. Please make your staffs, swimmers and parents aware and ask them to be respectful of the staff and facility as they prepare for this exciting event.

We will continue to honor the memory of Green Meadow swimmer Clark Reagan by collecting art supplies during City Meet. Collection bins will be available in the concourse.

We know that many teams are doing public service and fundraisers for various causes this year. If your team has done something (or is planning to do something), we would like to recognize you. Please send an email to GKAISA President Angelia Nystrom at anystrom@tennessee.edu with a brief description of your team’s activity.

Thank you for your patience as we work to modernize our entry meeting and ordering procedures for City Meet. We are hopeful that this will make things easier for our teams going forward.

Happy Swimming!

Angelia Nystrom

GKAISA President
