GKAISA News and Notes: June 9
Team Reps and Coaches,
I hope your week if off to a great start! Here are a few things to keep in mind as you go forward this week….
CERTIFIED OFFICIALS’ TRAINING FOR COACHES
As you are aware, any Head Coach or Assistant Coach can complete the certified officials training and serve as a certified official this year, either by completing the online training or by attending a live training with Tom Schumann. The live training will be held next Monday evening, June at 6:00 pm at KRC in the Indoor Tennis Center. To keep our numbers under control, we are asking that each team send only one coach to the live training. You can RSVP for your team by emailing Tom Schumann at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WEEKLY INSTAGRAM and TWITTER CONTESTS
Our GKAISA Instagram and Twitter contest has begun! Please post your photos on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #GKAISA. This week’s theme is “Show us your best social distancing.” Please make sure your team is identified. The winning team will be announced on Friday and will receive a sweet treat at practice next week.
SENIOR SPLASH and SENIOR RECOGNITION
As long as Health Department directives permit, we will hold a “Senior Splash” meet on Saturday, July 25 at Knoxville Racquet Club. At that time, we will honor our GKAISA Seniors and award the Tom Schumann and Bill Lauer Service Awards and the James Rich Courage Award.
Any swimmer who is age 18 or who has just completed high school will be eligible to compete – even if your team is not swimming this year. Participation in this meet will not affect a swimmer’s ability to obtain a waiver to swim next summer.
Additional details will be forthcoming.
Also, please send the names of your seniors, along with a short bio and a photo to Sherren Chadwell at email@example.com. These will be posted on the GKAISA website.
COVID-19 UPDATE and COVID RELEASES
If you have a swimmer (or if a person in a swimmer’s immediate family) tests positive for COVID-19, please be sure to follow the recommendations of the Knox County Health Department (if you are in Knox County) or the State of Tennessee guidelines (if you are not in Knox County). If you have questions regarding the process and want to understand what happens if you have a positive case, please call Annabel Henley at the Knox County Health Department at 865.215.5331.
Also, please send copies of your COVID Releases to GKAISA c/o Angelia Nystrom at 613 Scotswood Circle, Knoxville 37919. You can also scan and email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
… AND FINALLY….
Thank you again for having a positive attitude and being willing to pivot to make this summer as good as it can be. We cannot control this pandemic, but we can control how we respond. Thank you for all that you are doing for your teams and your swimmers.
