GKAISA NEWS AND NOTES: Correction to Include Parking

Team Reps and Head Coaches,

Congratulations to WSY and ORCA for winning this week’s Instagram challenge! A sweet treat will be heading your way! This week’s theme is “Championship Season: Let’s Get Ready for City Meet.” Please post photos of your team getting ready for City Meet between today and next Wednesday. Be sure to use the hashtag #GKAISA for a chance to have doughnuts delivered to your tent at City Meet!!

It is hard to believe that City Meet is TEN DAYS away! City Meet will take place Thursday, July 29 through Saturday, July 31. Preliminaries for swimmers 10-Under will be held on Thursday, July 29. Warm-ups will begin at 1:00 pm, with a meet start time of 3:00 pm. Preliminaries for swimmers 11-Up will be held on Friday, July 30. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a meet start time of 9:00 am. Finals will be held on Saturday, July 31. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, with a start time of 9:00 am. Additional details can be found in the Meet Invitation, which is under the City Meet tab on the GKAISA website.

TEAM REGISTRATION: Items with a RED Heading will be paid as part of Meet Entry

Team registration is now open and must be completed by the Meet Entry Meeting this Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm. Each team will register as a team, include athlete information, tent order, parking passes, t-shirts, etc. and will be able to pay at the end via credit card OR by bringing a check to the Meet Entry meeting at Allan Jones on Wednesday, July 21 at 6:00 pm.

Parking will be available in the garage across from Allan Jones at the cost of $10 per day. Please have your parents order passes through your team and submit the number and payment when you register for City Meet. For Finals Saturday: If you reasonably believe that a swimmer will qualify for Finals, please encourage that swimmer's parent to purchase a Saturday pass. We will have a very limited number available for purchase on Friday for Saturday finals.

If you have parents who do not want to purchase parking, parking will be available at the Metron Center lot off Kingston Pike (approximately 1 mile away). No shuttle service will be provided.

When your team registers for City Meet, you will also enter and pay for GKAISA t-shirts for your team. Please take orders from your parents and submit one order for your team. Cost for shirts is $15. Sizes are Youth S, M, L and Adult S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. Be sure you specify the day for each of the shirts since there is a different shirt for swimmers 10-Under and 11-Up.

If your team does not want to bring drinks for City Meet, please include $25 for Hospitality when you register your team. For those who would rather bring drinks, please bring 3 boxes of 12-count cans of soft drinks to Allan Jones between noon and 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 28 or during the morning of July 29. Drop-off will take place at the stairs in front of the Aquatic Center. Representatives from KRC will be there to collect them.

Please be sure that you include your tent size and tent payment in your team registration.

If you are requesting a different size than your team has had in the past or if you are requesting a different location, please send a message to Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu.

Team logos will be placed on the video boards during our Senior Swimmer recognition. If your team has seniors who will be recognized, please upload a list of your seniors into the Google doc previously sent, along with your logo in .jpg format, to Marshall Goldman at mgoldma4@utk.edu. Logos must be received by July 21 in order to be posted.

If anyone on your team is interested in auditioning to perform the National Anthem, please have him or her contact Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu or at 865.936.5454.

Also, we will again be asking each top qualifier from the 15-18 age group to choose “walk out” music for Finals on Saturday. If you have a swimmer or relay that is top-qualifier, please email the title of the song and name of the artist to Harry Whiteside at hwwhiteside@pstcc.edu no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, July 30. Please put “GKAISA Heat Winner Music” in the subject and include your name, your team, your event, and your event number in the email. Also include any cueing instructions (i.e., “start at 1:32”). Approximately 30-45 seconds will be played.

For more information, see the City Meet tab on the GKAISA website.

The Tom Schumann and Bill Lauer awards will be presented at the Senior Splash. Recipients will be recognized at City Meet. The Head Coach of a team may nominate one girl and one boy from their team.

The James Rich Courage Award will be presented to a swimmer in the 15-18 age group who has either demonstrated great courage in the face of adversity or who has shown leadership in a difficult situation. The nomination must be made by the head coach.

The applications are due via email submission by noon on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 to GKAISA president Angelia Nystrom at anystrom@tennessee.edu. Please include a photo (head shot) of the nominee. Scholarships will be awarded at the Senior Splash on Saturday, July 24 at KRC. Recipients will be recognized at City Meet.

The GKAISA Senior Splash will be held on Saturday, July 24 at KRC. Meet entry is open, and entries need to be received by 5:00 pm this Thursday. Warm-ups will begin at 8:00 am, with a meet start at 9:00. It is open to all swimmers in their last year of GKAISA competition.

The Senior Splash is a “fun meet” and does not count toward the two required meets for Championship Meet eligibility. The meet will feature “hot heats for hot doughnuts” and other fun prizes. It will also include “Random Relays.”

Thank you for making this a great summer season for your teams. We are looking forward to celebrating your seniors at Senior Splash and hosting you at the GKAISA Championship Meet.

Happy Swimming!
