GKAISA - Eligibility reminders

Teams,

As the season has begun and as we approach the GKAISA Championship Meet, we have had questions and concerns raised regarding Swimmer Eligibility. Our rules are as follows:

GKAISA GENERAL RULES

4.1 All events must be swum in divisions of 8 and under girls, 8 and under boys, 9-10 girls, 9-10 boys, 11-12 girls, 11-12 boys, 13-14 girls, 13-14 boys, 15-18 girls, and 15-18 boys. NOTE: The cut-off for age is midnight as of May 31. Anyone who was above 18 as of midnight on May 31 is ineligible to swim in the absence of a special circumstances waiver as set forth in GKAISA General Rules 4.4, which is at the discretion of the GKAISA Board.

4.3 No one who has trained as a member of an NCAA, NAIA, or NCAA sanctioned collegiate swimming and diving team may compete in a GKAISA meet regardless of age. NOTE: Any athlete who has worked out or competed with his or her collegiate team is ineligible to compete in GKAISA meets even if the athlete is not currently taking classes.

GKAISA Championship Meet Rules

1.1 The GKAISA Championship Meet is open to all swimmers being a member of one of the GKAISA member swim teams.

1.2 Swimmers must have participated in at least 2 GKAISA Dual or Triangular meets during the current season to be eligible for the Championship meet. For purposes of this rule, the Smoky Mountain Invitational swim meet shall be considered a GKAISA meet. A Dual or Triangular meet is defined as a meet involving at least two GKAISA member teams.

For a Dual or Triangular meet to be considered valid for establishing eligibility, at least 50% of the members of each team must participate as evidenced by scoresheet entries and one or more team coaches must be present, or the meet must be one that counts toward league standing.

NOTE: Teams may swim each other more than once, and teams can schedule meets with teams outside of their leagues. If a team swims another team in its league more than once, the first meet counts toward league standing; however, the second meet can count toward swimmer eligibility for the Championship meet.

The GKAISA rules are found on the GKAISA website. If you have additional questions regarding the rules, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for leading our teams and what each of you do regularly for our swimmers.

Sincerely,

Breckenridge Morgan

GKAISA President
