GKAISA News and Notes: City Meet Wrap-Up
Team Reps and Coaches,
What a weekend at the GKAISA Championship Meet! For the first time in recent memory, all of our GKAISA teams had swimmers in the Finals. It was a great thing to see, and it is good for our organization to see so many teams having great success.
Again, thank you for all that you did for your teams this summer. We appreciate all of your hard work and thank you for your participation in the GKAISA Championship Meet this year. We saw some great swims, numerous examples of great sportsmanship, and generally lots of swimmers having lots of fun. Thank you for helping us make this a fair and fun competition for everyone.
Congratulations to the following teams who were the regular season champions this year:
League 1: Knoxville Racquet Club
League 2: Beaver Brook Blue Fins

Congratulations to the following swimmers who are recipients of the GKAISA Scholarships:
Tom Schumann Service Award: Gabby Maine (Sugarwood)
Bill Lauer Service Award: Creed Loy (Gulf Park)
James Rich Courage Award: Hannah Grace Reiman (Village Green)
Terry Gardner Memorial Scholarship: Creed Loy (Gulf Park)
Thank you to these swimmers for your service to your teams and your dedication to the betterment of summer swimming in our area.
We were honored to be able to posthumously induct Terry Gardner into the GKAISA Hall of Fame yesterday. Terry served the swimming community in multiple capacities for nearly two decades. Terry could often be found on deck as an official, and he worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure meets ran efficiently and fairly. Terry not only served as the Head Referee for USA Swimming and GKAISA, but he was a member of the GKAISA Board for a number of years, including serving as president from 2016 to 2018. During Terry’s tenure, he worked hard to improve the swimmer and parent experience at City Meet and with summer swimming in general. Sadly, Terry passed away on Christmas Day last year. However, his impact on GKAISA continues to be felt. We were honored to be joined yesterday by Terry’s wife, Denise, his children Mallory and Will, Terry’s parents and Mallory’s husband.
Again, thank you to all of you for a great summer. We look forward to seeing you at the Fall Meeting in October.
Happy Swimming... and have a restful rest of the summer!
PS… Several teams left stopwatches at Clerk of Course. We will have them for you at the Fall Meeting…. Also, we still have awards for several teams. If you would like to pick them up in the next week or so (or if your team is missing awards or have inadvertently received awards for another team), please call Angelia Nystrom at 865.851.0262. We will get those to you!
