GKAISA News and Notes: June 20... Inclement Weather... and Sponsorship Information

Team Reps and Head Coaches,

Rain, rain, go away! GKAISA teams want to swim today!

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In light of the threat of inclement weather this week, it is likely that one or more meets this week will be interrupted or postponed. I wanted to remind everyone of the GKAISA General Rules applicable to interrupted meets.

11.13. Meet Safety

11.13.1 The meet referee has the responsibility and authority to see that the meet is conducted in a safe manner and may halt the meet at any time due to hazardous conditions. The meet referee shall follow the facility rules for safety, including the inclement weather policy. If the referee believes circumstances so dictate, the referee may enforce a more strict safety policy but can never enforce a more lenient policy. The meet director shall supply the referee and the visiting team with a copy of the facility’s safety requirements, including the inclement weather policy, and should also provide a copy to the GKAISA Board for posting on the GKAISA website.

12. Interrupted Meet

12.1 In the event a Dual or Triangular meet must be interrupted due to weather or other circumstances, the following guidelines will apply:

12.1.1 If the meet is interrupted prior to completion of Event 40, the meet should be rescheduled, at which time the meet shall proceed from the heat/event last swum prior to the interruption.

12.1.2. If the meet is interrupted after completion of Event 40, the meet should be rescheduled; or by the coaches’ mutual consent, it may be considered a complete meet. If it is rescheduled, the meet shall proceed from the event/heat last swum prior the interruption.

12.2 For purpose of establishing GKAISA Championship Meet eligibility both the original and rescheduled meets shall be considered one meet. A swimmer participating in either the original or rescheduled meet shall be considered to have participated in the meet.

12.3 When a league meet must be rescheduled due to weather or other reason, the host team will provide the visiting team with at least three possible open meet dates. If the visiting team cannot accept one of these dates, the visiting team will forfeit the meet.

12.4 In the case where a scheduled or rescheduled meet cannot be swum during the season, neither team will be given a Win or a Loss for the unswum meet.

CITY MEET SPONSORSHIPS

As you are aware, we are making a concerted effort to increase the number of sponsors for City Meet. Every dollar raised in sponsorship money goes directly to the reduction of the cost of hosting City Meet. Our hope is that an increase in sponsorship dollars will result in decreased costs for your teams. A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE TEAMS THAT HAVE BEEN PROMOTING SPONSORSHIPS THIS YEAR. YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

Please share the information with your families and with businesses that may be interested in sponsoring City Meet. Leagues 1 and 2 should target ten (10) new advertisers, Leagues 3 and 4 should target six (6) and Leagues 5 and 6 should target (2). The GKAISA Board will target five (5) high-level sponsors. Together, we can drive down the growing cost of City Meet to ensure more swimmers have access to this great event.
