GKAISA NEWS AND NOTES: City Meet Day 2 Reminders
Coaches and Team Reps,
Coaches, “thank you” is inadequate to express our appreciation for you today. We appreciate how you conducted yourselves and how you handled your swimmers in what can only be described as chaos. I don’t recall that we have ever had a day where we had torrential rain for hours on end, which was capped off with a severe thunderstorm warning.
Your ability to pivot when we had to bring all the swimmers onto the deck, keep them organized, and continue the meet was nothing short of amazing. Because of you, we were only an hour off schedule when we ended. Once the chaos ended, you were fantastic in clearing out.
The officials remarked that the deck operated more smoothly than it ever has. Things worked today because of your efforts.
You were fabulous, and we hope you know how much we appreciate you!!
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN
Today’s events were a “first” for our meet… and the first of their kind at Allan Jones. We have worked with the Office of Emergency Management and the staff at Allan Jones to come up with a plan for tomorrow in the event we are hit with severe weather. If we have severe weather, we will ask that you bring all of your swimmers to the deck. You will need to stay with your swimmers, and we will have a person from Clerk of Course to help your swimmers get to the blocks.
We have attached a schematic of the deck, which is labeled by team. In the event of severe weather, we will ask that your swimmers head to the location indicated on the map and that you help corral them there. Once everyone is seated, we will continue the meet as planned. Please note: teams are positioned by size. We were able to ascertain the number of swimmers per team and organize the map accordingly.
Here are a few things that may help you as you get your teams ready for tomorrow’s competition:

And, remind your teams that chairs, coolers, etc. may not be placed on the sidewalks. We must KEEP THE SIDEWALKS CLEAR for foot traffic and emergency vehicles.
CLERK OF COURSE
Events will be called three times, and swimmers should be in the Clerk of Course tent by the 3rd call. Once a swimmer has reported to Clerk of Course, they should remain there unless excused by the Head Clerk. Failure to report to Clerk of Course on time will constitute a scratch from the event. If a swimmer misses a heat, then he or she will not be allowed to swim in another heat, absent permission from the Meet Referee.
MEET WORKERS
All Meet Workers should attend the Meet Worker Meeting at 8:20 tomorrow. First shift workers should report to the worker check-in table before the worker meeting and should be at their stations prior to the start of the Meet. Second shift workers should report to their stations by 11:00 am.
Shifts cannot be split or shared. When a worker shift ends, the worker should exit the pool deck or other area and return to the stands or to the team tent.
Please remind your parents who are working that they MUST have a wristband and either a lanyard or vest to be on the deck at any time. Anyone without both of the credentials will be removed from the facility and will not be allowed to return at any time during competition.
